In good marriages, couples actively de-escalate conflicts by doing things like injecting well-timed humor into tense and difficult situations. Humor can lower the tension level of an argument, destroy the division between you and your partner, and remind you that you’re human.
Payment may also incentivize people to share data about themselves and thus further degrade privacy. Because those least able to forego income face added pressure to sell their data, propertarian approaches risk transforming privacy into an even greater privilege than it is today.
No doubt, monetary reward could actually decrease the perception of cultural benefit — not everything should be commoditized. But one key benefit to such a model would be that it allows its members to actually build sustainable lives based on their contribution, rather than simply volunteering out of the drive to produce something valuable.
Contrary to creators, there is no good business models for curators today. It’s hard for them to make a living, showcase their work, and get discovered.
