Self care
Few situations in life are ever improved by not taking care of ourselves and not giving ourselves what we need.
Melody Beattie • Codependent No More: How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself
You're wasting your potential by not taking care of yourself. You could change the world, but it requires you to strive to be at your best everyday. And you can't do that if you havent taken care of yourself. If you havent slept, eaten well, calmed your mind, thought about your work, Organized your life.
It will require you to reach—to work at your maximum potential. In order to do this, you will have to learn to take better care of yourself. You will have to sleep and eat properly. (In the case of a writer, you will have to stop abusing your mind with poorly written books.) You will probably have to create a regular schedule.
Stephen Cope • The Great Work of Your Life: A Guide for the Journey to Your True Calling
Many of the great artists are up early, taking advantage of the quiet hours to listen to the muse. But you can, because you stayed up late and spent all of the previous day not doing the right things to take care of yourself.
The question of impact is my favorite. If the people doing the impacting are tired and sick and frustrated and have all these needs that are not being met, what good is that impact? The quality of work that we can do for each other depends on the quality of care that we’re experiencing and cultivating for ourselves. I can’t say that enough.
Alexis Aceves Garcia • What if care is the work?
When you don't have your health, you're goals can't be achieved. Big goals require big self care.
George Saunders, Lincoln in the Bardo
The goal is to meet your potential. If your body and mind feel like shit from bad foods, no sleep, no movement, there will be a governor on your life.
If you really want to see how far you can go, you must take care of yourself.
