At the same time, it’s important to realize that “done is better than perfect.” Your course will never be perfect, because nothing is. Also, what is perfect for one learner might not work well for another. So be open to feedback, use it to continually improve your course as much as possible for all your learners, and then let it go, knowing you

It’s helpful to provide your learners with guidance on how to provide feedback to you and to each other, early in your course.

In that case, my suggestion is to make successfully completing one lesson, a prerequisite for releasing the next, but not to resort to a time-based drip method.

Ask yourself, How can I make learners curious about what’s coming next? How can I encourage them to take effective action on their own behalf, rather than just absorbing the course material passively? How can I build a strong learner achievement component into my lessons?

Provide performance-based feedback at every step of the learning sequence. Help students generalize the learning to a larger context beyond the immediate lesson.

To gain attention: Use varying formats. Make abstract ideas clear and easy to grasp. Incorporate humor, paradox, and surprise. To ensure relevance: Relate the lesson material to students’ prior knowledge. Clarify the immediate usefulness of learning the material. Explain how learning this material will benefit learners in the future. To enhance

the desired target behaviors that flow from them. In order to teach attitude change, it’s important to: Identify the desired behavior. Demonstrate the desired behavior. Reward the desired behavior. Provide opportunities for learners to practice the desired behavior.17
