The Chinese proverb says it this way: “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”

The key to transformation is self-awareness. A transformational leader helps participants bring attention to hidden assumptions, which are often part of our default stories or identities, such as the lost child or hard-hearted person. We do this through the safe witnessing of habitual thinking and judgments.

Understanding, freedom, and joy are the treasures that naming the demon of desire brings us. We discover that underneath unskillful desire is a deep spiritual longing for beauty, for abundance and completeness. Naming desire can lead us to discover this truest desire.

“Maybe we shouldn’t do that,” Jordi said. “Flatten ourselves like that. Erratic doesn’t have to mean crazy or irresponsible. Shouldn’t we be normalizing change?”

This constant march into the unknown would not exist without the simultaneous sharing of millions of divergent points of view. Expressing oneself in the world and creativity are the same. It may not be possible to know who you are without somehow expressing it.

With this stage comes a deep yearning for wholeness—bringing together the ego and the deeper parts of the self; integrating mind, body, and soul; cultivating both the feminine and masculine parts within; being whole in relation to others; and repairing our broken relationship with life and nature.
