Context Isn't Optional β It's Vital π
As UX researchers, we know that understanding the "why" behind user behavior is just as important as observing the "what." But here's the thing: people don't exist in a vacuum. They navigate real-world constraints, juggle competing priorities, and operate within systems that are often invisible to us.
This is where UX research becomes indispensable. Our job isn't just to validate assumptions or check boxes β it's to uncover the context that shapes people's lives. What pressures are they under? What trade-offs are they making? What parts of their experience fall outside the neat boundaries of our product or service?
Yet, many companies remain "blind" to this reality. Especially those that focus exclusively on the digital product and ignore the service side β the human touchpoints, the offline experiences, the support systems that complete the journey. When we design in isolation, we risk building solutions that look great in a prototype but fall apart in real life.
Good UX research acknowledges that our users are whole people with complex lives. It's not just about usability testing or feature feedback. It's about understanding the broader ecosystem: the environmental factors, the emotional states, the systemic barriers that influence every interaction.
Because when we understand the full picture, we build better experiences for everyone.
