FARA is a device set up for transparency of foreign espionage operations against the US. It is where US businesses must register if the do work inside the US on behalf of foreign governments. It has also been used to prosecute foreign spy operations in lieu of the Espionage Act which often means closed courts, sealed documents and heavy redactions to safeguard US intelligence assets, means and methods.
