Imposter syndrome is loosely defined as doubting your abilities and feeling like a fraud. It disproportionately affects high-achieving people, who find it difficult to accept their accomplishments.

I’m an elder millenial (‘84) and the biggest difference is fatigue. I’m so, so tired. 9/11 happened my senior year of high school. Hurricane Katrina and the destructive, corrupt 104th Congress in college. The Great Recession in my early working years. My first child days before Trump’s first term. My second child the year before Covid. One climate disaster after another. Now Trump 2 and the fracturing of the future. Gen Z appears to have internalized and accepted this chaos as the natural order of things, which lends itself to a zen-like inward turn and approach to contentment rather than extremes and hysteria. Like the old adage of the Buddhist monk who says “We’ll see.” That’s my feeling, anyway. I don’t have any data to back that up. But it makes me a little hopeful. Also I would like to say Ms. Grose, you are a breath of fresh air which I always look forward to.
