Personally, I see at least 2 "types" of websites. In short: I am for AI for "getting information quickly," against it for "consolidating the internet landscape." 1. "Get stuff done/get information quickly." Where efficiency is key. Get from A→B as fast as possible. "What does this error code mean?" would be an example. "How do I file this {IRS form}?" I have zero inclination toward serendipity in those situations. 2. Then there's browsing the internet. Blogs, social platforms, Reddit, websites, etc. The point is to have variety—#2 in-situ in an AI interface would be, in my mind, like having all the parks, cafes, stores, etc. cramped into a mega indoor mall. Yielding "custom designs for creator" skinning feels like it would be similar to mall dining court, "Hey, you can still style your menu and have your logo," both visually and environmentally speaking. It puts you "at a remove" from the content itself. I would also advocate against folding #2 into the in-situ all-encompassing browsing experience, especially because convenience and efficiencies erode variety, and it's chiefly bc convenience /isn't/ bad, that makes this kind of erosion dangerously appealing.

there's this feeling which is the opposite of audience capture - this feeling when you find a group of people who give you permission to be more and more illegible and spontaneous i love that feeling

The message of the medium we call AI is the obfuscation of responsibility and relationship.

It's wild how literally everything around us is the way it is for a reason ...and just stays that way, unless some strong external force causes it to change (quote from @MikeShatzkin's excellent newsletter) https://t.co/Ali22rYkn4
