Over time interviewing, I’ve found that I mainly screen for one key thing: giving a shit. To be more specific, there’s actually two things to screen for:-they give a shit about Scale, and-they give a shit about their work in general.
News companies lost a ton of revenue because platforms such as Facebook could deliver more targeted ads and consequently companies shifted their ad money towards social media platforms
To know that no matter what, their parents will be there to help them, take care of them, protect them, give them food and shelter, and emotional/physical love
Platforms that manage to provide value with a good mix of entertainment and knowledge are especially powerful. Examples include YouTube, Twitter, Clubhouse, and Reddit.
The thing that people scoff at -- these are just stupid jpegs! -- is the same thing that makes them so rife for narrative building. They’re largely empty vessels into which the community of owners and supporters can pour stories that turn into a narrative.
