How much will the decision alter your overall happiness?
When adapting a book to a movie, you lose the narrator—even with voiceover. With that, you also lose the internal knowledge the narrator provides the audience. The intimate scenes between characters become more important for maintaining emotional pull. If you cut these as well, you are left with nothing but a vapid chain of events.
