Somehow we’ve become reluctant to publicly endorse any sort of value that lies outside of economics. Governments pay people to take vaccines. Cities are paying residents not to shoot people.

One of the things that makes it tough for creative people is this expectation that you have to be everything to everyone . I write jokes about diarrhea, I write about depression, I write about the bullshit that’s interesting to me. You don’t need any of my uninformed political opinions. You don’t need to know.

I think there will be an initial phase in which the digital and analog worlds will develop together side by side and there will be few connections between one world and the other. This will then be followed by a second, more hybrid phase, in which the two worlds will be interwoven in a reciprocal exchange.

Don’t exercise to be thin. Exercise to be strong.

When I come across interesting information, I underline then write a corresponding question in the margin. So what I underlined is an answer to the question.

When I finish a book, I put it back on the shelf for a week or two. After a week or two, when I have a block of time, I grab the book and a stack of 4×6 notecards. The reason to wait a week or two? Time is a great filter/editor. Even with a really good book—one where I fold over every other page—I might only make 5-10 notecards.
