Currently, the global food system accounts for nearly a third of greenhouse gas emissions, and land use for livestock production has been a devastating force of deforestation, using up 80 percent of global farmland to provide fewer than 20 percent of the calories consumed globally.
Currently, Americans eat about 225 pounds of meat a year. This amount is higher than almost all other countries and is the highest it has ever been in the U.S. If we can reduce this number, it could greatly reduce agricultural emissions and guide our planet to a more sustainable future.
