Most things called communities today are actually just audiences with messaging attached. An audience is organised around a source. A community is organised around relationships. In an audience, people show up for you. In a community, people show up for each other.

Voltaire once wrote that, “in order to have taste, it is not enough to see and to know what is beautiful in a given work. One must feel beauty and be moved by it.”
