is the best way not the extremes but extreme-adjacent?

A lot of advice usually directs you towards one extreme on a sliding scale as the best way? Sure, but I feel it’s context dependent - large or small.
The middle ground is mediocrity, average, undecided, not moving. So that’s a no. What’s the sweet spot for most things, could it be extreme-adjacent?
