We will have so much abundance of ideas, that the true rare skill will not be to have great ideas, but to be able to pick the very best ones from huge pools of alternatives.

Revisited: one thing I saw growing up with the Internet as Google grew, was that small lists and directories tended to disappear, and then re-appear in new incarnations, providing service, curation and selection that Google itself couldn't match, for people willing to search them out and of course pay the premium, and where there was enough interest to support this. They didn't scale - they didn't turn into chains of 30 indie directories networks - but they often prospered.

All curation grows until it requires search, and all search grows until it requires curation.

If search giants aren't interested in, well, search, I suppose it's time to look elsewhere for answers online. Share sources you trust, curate sources of information on what's important to you and dive back into specific URLs over general queries.

Somewhere between the late 2000’s aggregator sites and the contemporary For You Page, we lost our ability to curate the web. Worse still, we’ve outsourced our discovery to corporate algorithms. Most of us did it in exchange for an endless content feed.
