Walter Brueggemann, In Memoriam - When the World We Have Trusted In Is Vanishing
podcasts.apple.comDamn!! History will be erased to make way for ever changing brand narratives that define who we are on the basis of consumer not creator/created (if you believe)
““The Prophetic Imagination, your book in 1978. They're very poetic, too. Our consumer culture, following on what you just said, our consumer culture is organized against history.
There is a deprecation of memory and a ridicule of hope, which means everything must be held in the now, either an urgent now or an eternal now.”

The breakdown of shared time
An epoch connects individual experiences to collective horizons, which Stiegler argues we currently lack. We do not anticipate shared futures or build together anymore. Instead, we optimize the present continuously, which is a huge idea because it contextualized for me why I’ve felt so damn stuck lately.
”continuously optimizing the present” was a spicy revelation. We’re so afraid of what the future may hold because of our present. I believe futures should be defined by a “what if?” that is dreamt and shared in spite of our present.
Speak in rhymes and riddles. Communicate in scents and touches.
Hide yourself in caves and the rocks of the mountains, for all is being revealed, and we are at the end of time.
