We Are Vulnerable by Choice

Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, and joy. We know that vulnerability is the cornerstone of courage-building, but we often fail to realize that without vulnerability there is no creativity or innovation.

6. Vulnerability and Surrender It is one thing to be genuine and authentic alone; it is hard enough to look oneself in the mirror honestly when there are no witnesses. However, this next component involves a step beyond that: It entails choosing to be emotionally naked while in full view of another.

Choosing to be curious is choosing to be vulnerable because it requires us to surrender to uncertainty. We have to ask questions, admit to not knowing, risk being told that we shouldn’t be asking, and, sometimes, make discoveries that lead to discomfort.
