We reflexively implicate perfectionism both in our everyday frustrations with life and in a wide array of mental health disorders (anorexia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc.), and yet the field of mental health doesn’t offer a standardized definition of what perfectionism is.

I was a ‘productivity geek’. You know how some people are passionate about bodybuilding, or fashion, or rock climbing, or poetry? Productivity geeks are passionate about crossing items off their to-do lists. So it’s sort of the same, except infinitely sadder.

Eric Abrahamson calls these self-righteous people “order prigs”—they make it their goal to be the most organized person around.
