I had a strange sensation this morning, an ‘I want to write a poem’ feeling but then I realised I wanted to write a poem I’ve already written several times. For what it’s worth, I think its ok to repeat yourself, I kind of enjoy that in other writers - sitting with them as they loop around the same intractable problem, but the desire made me read some of my last poetry book and feel a nostalgic affection for them. I don’t go back to them often, but it is interesting to me to find myself still in conversation with the emotional impulses of those poems, even if much has changed. Sharing for anyone who might need alternatives to the romantic love poems that might make you feel alienated! @bloodaxebooks

by W.H. Auden
Looking up at the stars, I know quite well
That, for all they care, I can go to hell,
But on earth indifference is the least
We have to dread from man or beast.
How should we like it were stars to burn
With a passion for us we could not return?
If equal affection cannot be,
Let the more loving one be me.
Admirer as I think
