Writing online without collecting emails is like playing Monopoly, passing GO, and not collecting $200...Trying to build an online audience without an email list is a rookie mistake...My email list is my most underrated asset.

In August of 2021, Statista reported that in an “internet minute,” Facebook users shared over 240,000 photos, Twitter users posted 575,000 tweets, and Discord users sent 668,000 messages. In the same internet minute, TikTok users watched 167M videos, Facebook Live videos received 44M views, and users conducted 5.7M Google searches.

The metaphor of electronic mail never fully fit how people use e-mail. But, now, perhaps it might. Email could become a home for the kinds of communications that come in the mail: letters from actual people, bills, personalized advertisements, and periodicals.
