Execution Is Exponential
The classic “ideas are worthless, execution is everything” adage is flawed.
Six+ months into an intense software build, I can attest that the little execution details make all the difference. But the constraint on executing well is not operational. It’s more often about having good ideas about how to resolve challenges.

Execution is good, sure, but everyone can execute .
Coming to a unique insight and ideas from developing and nurturing a differentiated lens on the world is not something that can be easily replicated.

Oh how the pendulum swings. TBH - I’m not sure that everyone can execute - certainly in IRL and in aligning human behavior - easier in tech infra nowadays though.
no strategy is better than its execution. When you get better at execution, the strategic issues will crystallize more as well.

How to Do Great Work
“The math of success...
Results = (Hard Work*Time)^Strategy
Working hard is important, but working on the right thing is more important. A great strategy can deliver exponential results.
Of course, the best strategy is worth nothing if you never get to work. Zero to the millionth power is still zero.”

The thing about smart people is that they tend to think that if they think really hard about something, they might figure it out, when the truth is, in strategy (and life in general), there is never one right answer. Strategy requires making choices about a future that is not yet known. I’m one of those people that tends to over-intellectualize thi... See more
