I sympathy with this feeling. I also feel that the author misses mentioning that the term "creator" rose in popularity in direct response to criticism similar to this directed at the word "artist." People chose the term "creator" to avoid the accusations of pretentiousness that became popular.
In fact, a disproportionate amount of the so-called “creator economy” seems to be made up of people who have become financially independent creators by selling courses that purport to tell other people how to become financially independent creators, a Ponzi-like cavalcade of hustle porn that’s creators all the way down.

This is definitely the ugly side of place like YouTube. There are so many YouTubers who become successful by telling others how to succeed at YouTube, but all they can suggest is is for other to follow their path and do the same.
