Everything great takes a long time to grow.

Embracing the pathless path can be a slow and frustrating journey, one that happens at a different speed for everyone. It took me years to build up the courage to quit my job and then several more years to find a mix of work, people, and a way of orienting in the world that felt like it was a path I was meant to be on. Don’t rush things. Remember:

life is not meant

to be rushed through. It is not a race,

nor is it a problem to be solved. It is

an experience to be lived, and living

well requires presence.

It can sometimes take days, months, or even years to understand these big dreams, so do your best to stay curious and open while you’re still gathering layers.

Here, in my late thirties, I want to learn his nature-slowness. This, for me, is a change. It is the opposite of the kinds of drama that used to make me feel reassuringly alive. But I think I’m finally getting it. This kind of living isn’t the absence of story or of life. It’s just a story happening so slowly you can’t really see it taking place. I
