Specially trained psychiatrists and psychologists are now administering hallucinogens and other potent psychotropic agents (psilocybin, ketamine, ecstasy) as mental health remedies. Administering limited doses (one to three) of psychedelics interspersed with multiple sessions of talk therapy over many weeks has become the modern equivalent of

amitriptyline (Triptizol) or agomelatine (Valdoxan) (see Chapter 11). The last of these is only mildly sedative, but working in part on the melatonin system is purported to improve the circadian rhythm, effectively resetting your sleep clock. This may be a better way than pure sedation

Another compound, psilocybin, the psychoactive chemical in “magic” mushrooms, prevents serotonin reuptake and also mimics serotonin, activating its receptors.
