FAITH COMES FIRST
Martin Luther • Faith Alone: A Daily Devotional
James says, ‘Faith without deeds is dead’ (James 2:26). He does not mean that we can only become Christians if we perform a certain amount of religious activities. On the contrary, what he means is: ‘If you say you have faith in God, and that faith does not show itself in some way, then it is doubtful whether it is genuine faith at all.’
We will live in God’s presence because we believe in what he says, not because we do good works that make us holy.
Martin Luther • Faith Alone: A Daily Devotional
“To believe in God is to long for His existence and, further, it is to act as if He existed; it is to live by this longing and to make it the inner spring of our action.
Jan E. Evans • Miguel de Unamuno's Quest for Faith: A Kierkegaardian Understanding of Unamuno’s Struggle to Believe
heaven, if we would truly live by faith, we must be personally transformed by God such that we pursue Him, however imperfectly, on a constant basis.
Owen Strachan • Jonathan Edwards on True Christianity (The Essential Edwards Collection Book 4)
Sticking with it
If we have faith, we are blessed just like Abraham was blessed, not based on our works but based on our faith.
