Judd: So I figured I needed to get a job. And that made me want to get into comedy, and to get to know comedians. It made me think, If I start five years before everyone else, I’m going to be safe. So, a lot of the need to be productive is the terror of things falling apart. Do you feel like that’s a part of your thing?

Marc: In retrospect, have you brought it up to Leno and Seinfeld and Shandling that you interviewed them when you were sixteen? Judd: I’ve mentioned it and none of them remember it—and they don’t seem very interested in it, either. Marc: But these guys gave you a blueprint for your life. Judd: Yes, they did.

Michael: Almost everything. Aside from the stuff I write, there’s not much that appeals to me. I’ll watch—I like individual performances of people like Michael Keaton, who was wonderful in Night Shift. I’ll watch Shelley Long forever.
