“By "romantic revolutionary", I don't mean a starry-eyed idealist or a self-styled radical, but rather someone who combines a hopeful, humanist vision of what society could be with the cultural and political means to make it real.
The term breaks down into two essential components:
Romantic means embracing imagination, emotion, and a holistic vision of human society. This contrasts the cold rationalism and instrumentalism dominating much of contemporary political and economic discourse.
Revolutionary emphasises active transformation, urgency, and a break from the status quo. This recognises a need to fundamentally question and reimagine how society works.
Together, the term refers to those who innovate not just through policy tweaks or protest, but by shaping the cultural exchange, discourses, and visions that make new societies conceivable. They understand that real change requires both the ability to dream and the tools to build.”
