If you work on anything worthwhile, sooner or later people will care about it and will want you to send progress updates. These could be quarterly investor updates, weekly updates to your boss, emails to adjacent teams, etc. Here are tips on how to do this well.
Understand your role, and with each update add to the body of evidence that you’re a goo
Tedium is a regular part of my job. But today the graphs and calculations fall away as I inhale the scent of dirt and spruce needles. Out here, I am half scientist, half disciple. I’ve left the laboratory far behind and, with it, the need to quantify and contain. In its place, I’ve reconnected with the simple act of observation.
It’s all about communicating. It’s about listening. So [improv] is a great thing. I think [improv] should be taught in high schools. I think we’re saving our corner of the world because we’re teaching people to be better people. We’re making people listen and take care of each other and work as a group. So, I think everyone should have to do it. So I’d say to the scared people, just think of taking a class that makes you a better person. And that’s not scary.
