why did Ingres do so many iterations of the Turkish bather?

our brains believe what we tell them. how does that work?

we bump up against things that we are not meant for yet. we find them when we are ready for them or vice versa. how beautiful that we are afforded the space to become ready. how wonderful that we are afforded the hindsight to see what almost was.
