“Attack ideas, not people” not only represents how you deal with people you don’t like but how you deal with people you do like. You should be able to analyze and interrogate the ideas of a friend without attacking your friend. Rather than beginning with “tariffs are bullshit” you start with “what are the potential weak points of tariffs”.
