I. “Practice” as a tool PERSISTENCE: by consistently practicing something every day I learned to observe myself closely, my mood, the state of my body. I was my own witness to build something up from zero. Sharing it also helped to hold myself accountable for my practice and for my promise to myself. GRACE: Some days felt easy, natural and light, while other days heavy, hard and there was resistence. Those days thought me to not be too critical with myself and to give space for choice: “Am I practicing today or give it a rest?” I tend to fall into judgement and extremes about how I do things, but I am learning to accept the flowy nature of my body and soul. RETURN: What if “rest” is as important part of a continuous practice as actually “doing” it? Having some distance from something can offer the space for a sense of absense and the desire for closeness. What if it is all about feeling into our inner timing? I feel there is immense power in knowing yourself in the present moment. II. Shaking as a practice REGULATION: What started out as an idea, became an actual useful every day tool. I begun to choose shaking as a default coping mechanism whenever I feel anxiety, overwhelmed or in fight/flight. I am so happy to make small steps towards a less triggered or more smoothly transitioned nervous system. MOVEMENT IMAGE: This kind of silly-looking shake took me out of my movement patterns and I could finally start to reshape the stuck image of my body: “My movements are not perfect, I am not flexible/strong/etc. enough.” I became incredibly excited to discover the freaky way of my own movement language because it is not about the specific moves anymore. It is definitely about transformation, navigating emotions and J O Y. CONNECTION: The ways it inspired me when YOU people started to share your shaking and moving experiences is beyond words. And that is the whole point, to experience with the body and not with the mind. To feel, connect, express through the body. To exchange energy, to find pleasure and community within and with each other. Thank you everybody who chose to participate or be a witness of Shake in June! 🙏 Take care of your bodies ✨
