Keep reading👇🏼 Why do so many of us men struggle with presence? A lot of the time, we simply weren’t shown how to be present. Perhaps nobody gave us the gift of fully being there for us in our childhood. However once we start to cultivate this capacity, it becomes easier. I have spent a lot of my life practicing meditation and other mindfulness techniques, which greatly strengthen our capacity for being in the moment. — For some of us however, we need to look deeper. If we have unresolved emotional pain, it can greatly reduce our capacity for being present. Stress and suffering greatly reduce our capacity for compassion. If we’re still carrying pain from our past, it can be incredibly challenging to be present. — To heal we must look within and ask what’s still there. What emotions are we holding onto that weigh us down and make us reactive? What past moments or relationships made us feel afraid, hurt, or ashamed? Until we’re willing to feel these things and do the work to resolve them, they will continue to control us. — I help men do this work. In honor of Election Day, here are some moments from when Perry and I were in Madrid. No matter what happens in the US, remember that the world is big and beautiful. Cast your vote and let it go. Stop demonizing each other, you’re just serving the greater machine. In the words of Neil Kramer, “Hate what is evil. Don’t bother hating who has fallen under its spell. Not your concern to judge, you can never know. Love them by praying for mercy wisdom, healing, and honesty to be brought into their heart.” Imagine if we actually all did that - authentically loved and prayed for our “enemies”? Imagine if we actually cared more about seeking to understand each other rather than being avoidant and stubborn in our underdeveloped beliefs?… I certainly don’t have all the answers, but this collective mental breakdown ain’t it. Confusion is the devil. Creativity thrives on the endless combination of all things. Stay open to learning, get out of your echo chamber, find adventure in the madness, and GET GOING!
