Are you thinking about monetisation pathways for your portfolio career, but aren't sure what the options are?

This is one of the biggest things I work through with my mentoring clients so thought I'd share my thoughts here 😇

There are an infinite number of ways to monetise your skillset in the portfolio career model (it's both a curse and a weakness 😬) but here are three major ways:

The Creator Model

→ You've built an engaged audience on social

→ B2B revenue comes through sponsorships and partnerships. The bigger and more engaged the audience the more lucrative this will be

→ B2C revenue comes from products (like courses, e-books etc.) or services (mentoring, coaching), but only if people trust you and understand how you can solve their problems

→ The biggest mistake that creators make is relying too heavily on sponsorship deals, which are unscalable and can be inconsistent, without thinking long term

The Consultant Model

→ You have a valuable skillset and want to monetise it on your own terms, outside of having a full time job

→ B2B revenue comes through fractional work, project-based or advisory

→ More difficult to monetise B2C unless you have an audience or are willing to invest a lot of time and energy in direct sales

→ The biggest mistake I see is people getting caught in the trap of charging for effort (time) rather than value (impact)

Hybrid

→ Applies to someone who has both a valuable skillset they want to monetise and an audience

→ B2B revenue through fractional, consulting, advisory work and/or sponsorships or partnerships

→ B2C comes through products and services

→ The biggest mistake is trying to do everything at once instead of layering proven income streams one on top of the other

There's lots to consider as you explore different business models, including your skills, what lights you up vs. what drains you, how you like to sell and whether you're willing to put in the time to build your own platform.
