Music Industry
Is this nuts? Have we entered the most twisted era yet of late stage capitalism? Would anybody like to directly stream my catalog but side step the streaming giants?
instagram.comš Just over a year ago, ICMP launched its first ever tech driven copyright enforcement tool for members - The Anti-Piracy Platform (APP) powered by MUSO. The APP crawls for illegal content and automatically notifies websites, search engines, social media, cyberlockers, bit torrents, payment services and many other digital services of unlicensed use of your graphic rights content online. ICMP paid for set up, giving companies and MPAs worldwide an outstanding tool to protect their rights, at great value. There are now more than 1,500,000 take downs of illegal works online on the APP portal. Great to see. Thanks to Andy Chatterley, CEO of MUSO and ICMP members who continue to trust us with their feedback to make this tool more effective for our industry. You can sign up at www.muso.com/icmp š š¶
instagram.comAye yay yay. Tonight I saw a Story shared by the great @the_dead_dirtbag who spotted a strange looking band on his Spotify. The ābandā is Velvet Sundown - a clearly obvious AI creation with a chatGPT style bio, 300k followers, and two weeks of existence. We talked about the new AI music generator @sunomusic last night in regards to Timbalandās new venture, and Velvet Sundown seem to be another creation on the divisive platform. This is weird stuff, folks.

āWhen musicians can afford to pay rent, put food on the table, make music and play shows, everyone benefitsā. But when they canāt, the entire economy suffers. ā Luc Rinald, The Walrus In āThe Death of the Middle-Class Musicianā, Rinaldi lays bare the quiet collapse of a once-vibrant ecosystem and the plight of the working musician. Not the superstar. Not the side-hustler. The people in the middle who try to make a livingāand a lifeāthrough music. Why this matters to all of us: *Cultural diversity shrinks when mid-career artists canāt survive. *Creative pipelines close when thereās no path between entry-level and elite. *Mental health suffers in an industry where burnout, poverty, and isolation are normalized. At @reveliosmentalhealth, weāre actively investigating the intersection of mental health and sustainability in the Canadian music industryābecause these arenāt separate issues. Economic precarity, chronic stress, and lack of structural support are pushing people out of the work they love, making the music WE love. As leaders, funders, and community builders, we need to ask: *What would it take to rebuild a healthy creative middle class? *How can we invest in the well-being of artistsānot just their output? *Where can we shift power and resources to create real, sustainable change? *Who else needs to be supported in the ecosystem? Read the piece (link in bio). Sit with it. Then letās talk about whatās next. š Drop your thoughts below or DM me if youāre exploring the same questions. #MentalHealthInMusic #CreativeEconomy #CulturalPolicy #Revelios #CanadianMusic #SustainableCareers #LeadershipInTheArts #WorkplaceWellbeing #SupportArtists @annexe.media @reveliosmentalhealth
