How to grow an audience

Start by figuring out what job you’re doing for someone by answering these two questions:

1. Who exactly is your audience? Think of a specific person—what would they find extremely interesting or useful?

2. What is the concrete job you’re doing for them? Is it entertainment, helping them make money, inspiring them, helping them understand the world, something else?

Create content that gives you energy, more than what people want from you, make sure it’s based on real life experience and pay attention to what people value (e.g. what did you get asked more often? What performed well?)

How to grow:

• Series

• Publish something valuable consistently

• Leverage platforms’ recommendation features (e.g. Substack recommends)

• Bundle product offering for people if they upgrade
