Kit Williams, who could come across upon first meeting like one of the timid creatures of the forest he so delighted in painting, wasn’t quite what he seemed. His psyche harbored unexpected seams of stubbornness, pride, competitiveness, and even showmanship.

Mercy is one of the higher values. Like forgiveness and compassion and love, mercy depends on much more than the letter of the law. It is imaginative. It imagines the situation of the one who is in need of mercy - even if that person doesn’t know it.

There’s a concept in the open-source community known as benevolent dictator for life which describes a developer’s willingness to distribute his work for free while retaining exclusive rights and control over it, but whose actions must be orientated toward helping the community.

The Great War was the great rupture in reality. New ways of writing came out of that period that broke all the rules from writers who strove to find new ways of communicating what felt like a fractured reality
