Google acquired YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion, its largest acquisition to date, which turned out to be a great one for Google.

By 2013, YouTube had become enmeshed in wearying fights with practically every other part of Google.

In the years following the acquisition, Steve described the company’s focus very simply: “We were just trying to keep up with all the traffic.” There weren’t many huge feature releases, because the focus was on scaling the infrastructure as YouTube became the premier video platform for the internet.
