Be your own PR. It’s time to talk up your achievements. If you feel uncomfortable doing this, imagine that you’re talking about a friend who has had your successes, or pretend that you have a new client (aka you!) and you’re relaying all the great things they’ve done.

she’d take the time before an event to work out who would be there. She’d then think about what they had in common, either personally or professionally, that she could talk to them about.

And while you don’t want to talk over others, if someone has just finished saying something, remember to give them a response. Even just ‘got it’, or ‘that makes sense, thank you’. Otherwise the other person will feel ignored or as if they’re talking into thin air and you’ll get the famous ‘hello, hello . . . are you still there?’ from them.
