One thing that’s common to both music and PR is communication: telling stories with a purpose, assessing how they’re being received, and continuing – and sometimes changing – the conversation that everyone’s having.

Be your own PR. It’s time to talk up your achievements. If you feel uncomfortable doing this, imagine that you’re talking about a friend who has had your successes, or pretend that you have a new client (aka you!) and you’re relaying all the great things they’ve done.

And while you don’t want to talk over others, if someone has just finished saying something, remember to give them a response. Even just ‘got it’, or ‘that makes sense, thank you’. Otherwise the other person will feel ignored or as if they’re talking into thin air and you’ll get the famous ‘hello, hello . . . are you still there?’ from them.

It’s not about your number of followers, it’s about WHO they are.
