As an academic I burned out early in my career on grant-hunting bc I always come up with an idea (e.g. "elephant-riding tribes of Burma") before seeing what the grant orgs want to fund, and then I can't forcefit my idea to match what they want, which--esp from '16 onwards--is something serving a very explicit and narrow ideological project....
