I wonder if we could start a movement...? My wife (civil engineer, fashion model) and I (financial analyst, publisher) are looking to find a safe place to live and raise our family. We have a few non-negotiables. We want to live in a community where no one expects their neighbors to pay their bills or support them. We've both seen in our private lives and in the public sphere that feeding "stray cats" only encourages them. Life is hard. And to survive, you have to work. (Is there room for charity? Of course. We give generously to causes that do not pose a moral hazard.) Likewise, we want to live in a community that has a zero tolerance policy for violence -- of any kind, no exceptions. FAFO. We want fierce, instant justice -- especially for anyone who harms the defenseless. We want to live in a community of meritocracy, where people who work harder, are smarter, and accomplish more get to enjoy the fruits of their success, without being sacrificed at the altar of envy. Most of all, we want to be surrounded by people (and served by a government) that's focused on the wisest policy for neighbors: minding your own business. We want a government that provides the basics (roads, courts, security), balances its budget, and leaves everyone alone -- especially their wallets. Taxes should be low and administered evenly, so that everyone who votes pays. We want neighbors who are too busy growing their businesses and raising their families to worry about the politics of the middle east or global warming. We want to find a group of people who are wise enough to know that figuring out what's best for your own life is hard enough; no one is wise enough to tell other people how to live, especially halfway around the world. Where should we live? And is there any way that America could, once again, be a place like this? Also... sincerely... anyone who thinks this doesn't sound wonderful... please explain why. And, tell me where you live, so I won't go there...
