The church in Dubai is a snapshot of what God is doing all over the world. The gospel, by the power of the Holy Spirit, is going out to the ends of the earth, creating a people for God from every tribe, tongue, and nation to spread his glory and enjoy him forever. In the end,
Japanese have coffee with Persians. Filipinos show hospitality to Indians. Ghanaians pray with Americans. Bible studies are comprised of mixed groups of people from every habitable continent. My own small group has women from Nigeria, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, Australia, Eritrea, Ireland, England, Germany, and the US.
But the church in Dubai presents a different picture.
The coffee shop is a snapshot of Dubai—many nations living in the same place yet isolated from one another.
Isolated from one another is not I/we want.
Go to a local coffee shop and you will see Emiratis, Indians, Europeans, Africans, and East Asians. But instead of blending together, they group themselves according to race and nation.
Interesting that the different groups still separate themselves and do not blend. We/I still tend to do this. It’s who I /we feel most comfortable with. But we must break this cycle if we are going to genuinely love each other! How can I love you if I choose to separate myself from you?
At the end of time, as we celebrate the great wedding feast of the Lamb, we will discover that our investment in the bride of Christ was worth every painful interaction, every sleepless night, and every unnoticed act of service. And together with all our brothers and sisters, we will spend eternity in praise and worship of the one who gave his life
