Coming Home

The moment we enter this world, we are born with everything we need to thrive.

As children, we are pure. We are playful. Our imaginations are limitless, and possibilities feel endless.

Then we start to grow up.

We go to school.

And slowly, we stop imagining.

We stop being playful.

We stop being fully present.

We find ourselves looking back at the past, clinging to memories.

Other times, we peer so far ahead into the future that we feel like we’re not enough or too afraid of failing.

Believing we must protect ourselves, that we must become someone, we begin to add on layers.

We think: I need this so I can get that. I need to be this so I can have that.

Layer by layer, we build what we believe to be our identity.

Over time, after years of piling on layer after layer, we no longer recognize who we are.

This collection of layers, becomes our so-called identity.

Feeling lost and unfulfilled, some of us stop.

We stop adding layers.

And slowly, we realize that becoming was never about building more.

It was simply about learning to just be.

We always had what we needed to be unlimited.

It was always inside us.

It never left.

We knew this as children.

But as adults, we chose to block ourselves from seeing it in the mirror.

These layers, these “identities”, separated us from others.

They dulled our essence, they dimmed our connection.

When we begin to peel back these layers — shedding what is unnecessary, what has been covering and limiting us

we begin to see differently.

We begin to think differently.

We begin to feel differently.

We find ourselves courageously discovering the meaning in the impossible,

pursuing new possibilities,

and leading a life of true fulfillment.
