People find it difficult to understand the idea of ‘imagined orders’ because they assume that there are only two types of realities: objective realities and subjective realities.
Each person actively constructs their own perception of reality. That’s not to say there is not an objective reality out there. It’s to say that we have only subjective access to it.
But the truth of human life is that it’s a set of hallucinatory games organized around symbols. These games are an act of shared imagination. They come into being in the neural realms of those with whom we choose to play — our kin, our tribe, our people.
