The Second Book of the Tao

To clarify muddy waters, you must hold them still and let things settle. To glimpse the secret of the Tao, you must keep still and quiet your mind.

The mind of the Tao is consciousness that sees all things as one. On the surface, things appeared solid and concrete, but that was because their perspective was limited by what they could see and feel.

Although the Tao is nameless, human beings still need to call it something in order to talk about it. Out of all the possible names, the ancient sages were forced to call it “Tao,” which was simply Chinese for “the path” or “the way.”
