This is a bot of a false dichotomy. It’s possible. And IMO likely, that life can emerge by chance, but the chance is highly probable given the right initial conditions. Chemical energy gradients, reaction pathways that make more of their own constituents, surfaces that provide templates for the formation of membranes. This doesn’t ha to imply there is any meaning or intention behind the emergence of life, while still allowing it to be inevitable.
