Parts have their own specific agenda, but the Self’s agenda is for healing and reconciliation of the system. You can let your parts know they do not have all the information you do; they do not have the whole scene.

Parts do not have the clarity of Self. The parts who intellectualize, analyze, and ask “Why?” do not have Self’s full perspective.

Then let them know how you feel and ask them what they are afraid would happen if they did not do what they do. This will give you a hint into what they are protecting.

The “family” idea of IFS is just this, we have parts who interact with each other, parts who align together, and parts who go head-to-head against one another. Parts don’t just interact with us; they interact with one another.

We are not trying to get rid of parts, and parts do not become integrated into the Self. We ask for separation, an unblending of parts.
