Say to yourself “labeling,” when you notice you’re labeling, or “judging” when you’re judging, and “thinking” when you catch yourself lost in thought.
The definition of mindfulness that I find particularly useful is from meditation teacher Guy Armstrong: “Knowing what you are experiencing while you’re experiencing it.”
I use “acceptance” in this book to refer to a conscious choice to experience our sensations, feelings, and thoughts just as they are, moment to moment.
