The Incarnate Word

In what’s perhaps the best-known text, the Rig Veda, there’s a description of a force that underlies creation from which all things are formed—the force that was there before the “beginning.” This power, named Brahman, is identified as the “unborn … in whom all existing things abide.”

The Upanishads look inward, finding the powers of nature only an expression of the more awe-inspiring powers of human consciousness.
