Decisions of Desperation vs. Courageous Leaps I’ve coined a term for what almost happened to me in those early years after college: a “decision of desperation.” That’s what happens when, rather than having the opportunity to make a Courageous Leap, you are forced into making suboptimal, short-term decisions just to survive.

As Kierkegaard said, “To venture causes anxiety; not to venture is to lose oneself.” I periodically take time to step back and reflect on my life, and I’ve discovered something interesting: Nearly everything that stands out as giving my life meaning involved taking moderate to big risks.
