Slack vs Discord vs Discourse: The best tool for your community - Orbit
While forums can generally be configured to offer post notifications, conversation is generally slower than real-time, with some delay between posts. Depending on your community, this may feel less gratifying when people are trying to work together on an immediate issue.

What community platform do folks use most today?
Whatsapp/Telegram feel too synchronous. Slack is expensive and there's friction to switch instances. I like that Circle is async, but it's hard to get ppl to check it. FB groups was strong, but feels dead.
